<p>None of these patterns hurt. There’s no obvious signal telling you your breathing has drifted, the way a sore muscle tells you you overdid a workout. That’s exactly why a quick, structured check — like a 60-second resting-rate count or a simple breath-hold test — is useful: it turns something invisible into a number you can actually track.</p>

<h2 id="what-to-do-about-it">What to do about it</h2>

<p>You don’t need a dramatic intervention. A few minutes of paced breathing (four seconds in, four hold, four out, four hold — commonly called box breathing) most days is enough to nudge a fast or shallow pattern back toward baseline. The point isn’t to breathe “perfectly” all the time. It’s to notice when the pattern has drifted, and have a simple way to reset it.</p>
